Summer Beach Treats for All Year Long

Is there ever a bad time to go to the beach?  Is there ever a time when you can't dream of visiting the beach?  The picture in my header makes me feel so happy.  What if I told you that you could have a beach party all year long?

One of the things I love about my Etsy shop is how involved the kids get to be in my business.  Today's special felt food feature was created from my kids' suggestions entirely.  My 7 year old son told me to make an umbrella cake stand (other stands can be found here).  He picked the colors and instructed me on every detail of the project.  I'm very pleased with his artistic eye.  Scroll down to check it out!

The beach umbrella cake stand is the centerpiece of our "beach party" collection and would make a great decoration in a birthday party or play kitchen.  The umbrella features 12 wedges in three bright colors- orange, highlighter yellow, and bright blue.  The white umbrella stand is stuck into the tier below, which is covered in a sandy wool-blend felt.  To ensure the umbrella doesn't blow over in the wind, the base is weighted down with plastic balls.  Fill the cake stand with with my beach themed treats or other sweets.  Absolutely not recommended for real food, though!

My kids love going to the beach and finding sea stars in the tide pools.  They thought I should make a starfish cookie for the beach party theme.  I think these cookie looks a bit like it's been frosting dipped.  I love this pink wool-blend felt, which is mottled with darker color to give it a lot of visual interest.  The cookie is realistically sized and 1/4 inch thick.

I based this sand dollar cookies off of all the real food varieties I found online.  Most people used almonds to make the star patterns, which is why I used the darker brown almond shapes.  These Sand Dollar Cut Out Cookies are part of my interchangeable cut out cookie collection, with cookies for every event and occasion.  Pair this interactive play set with a child-sized rolling pin and cookie sheet for even more fun!

These mini Sand Castle Cakes were inspired from real beach party food.  They are created with a beautiful, sand-colored wool-blend and decorated with tiny starfish.  The flag on the sand castle can be removed for additional interactive play and as a safety feature for little ones (parents can toss it).  The square treat has been named "the tide pool cake" by my kids and features two more starfish.  Both cakes make a delicious addition to your pretend beach party.
